Cast and Crew Bios
Steven C. Anderson (Director) is the Artistic Director of the Phoenix Theatre for Children. He has created plays for and with Central Ohio children for the past thirty years. His directing credits include Children of a Lesser God, Greater Tuna and Assassins (Players Theatre Columbus), Love! Valour! Compassion!, and The Taste of Sunrise (CATCO), and Hair and Candide (The Ohio State University). He also directed last season's bilingual (ASL and spoken English) musical production of The Secret Garden which was co-produced with CAPA, Phoenix Theatre for Children and Opera Columbus.
Vanessa Becker (Aunt Ev/Voice of Annie Sullivan) has served on The Phoenix staff as an Actor, Director, choreographer, and Education Director for ten years (and counting). Vanessa loves chocolate and all kinds of dancing.
Reagan Belhorn (Helen Keller) is very excited to be making her Phoenix debut in The Miracle Worker. Regan attends the Ohio School for the Deaf, and loves to play with toys, computers, and her bicycle.
Olivia Bump (Blind Girl) is making her theatrical debut in The Miracle Worker. Olivia attends The Ohio State School for the Blind and loves to listen to Harry Potter stories.
Beth Caputo, N.I.C. (Interpreter) is a full-time sign language interpreter with Deaf Services Center. She holds a B.F.A from The Ohio State University in addition to an A.A.S. from Columbus State Community College. Beth enjoys reading, going to the gym, and Korean food.
Samuel Caraballo (ASL Assistant Director) is an actor, dancer, director, choreographer, theatre educator, and mask-maker, with a special emphasis in physical theatre. He recently made his "pre-Broadway" debut with performances of The Secret Garden in New Haven, CT (CAPA/Phoenix Theatre for Children), and designed and built masks for a Commedia dell'arte production of Beauty and the Beast in Columbus, OH.
Jody Daulton (ASL Director), a certified interpreter involved with music an theatre for more than 30 years, is the Director of Artistic Sign Language, which provides interpreters for performing events. Jody has previously served as ASL Director for The Secret Garden (CAPA/Phoenix), in addition to productions of On Golden Pond and The Fantasticks (SRO).
Bob Donaldson (Doctor/Anagnos) works at The Ohio School for the Deaf as an ASL Instructor. Bob loves traveling, meeting up with friends, steak, and Jersey Mike's subs.
Kelli Henery (Interpreter) is an alumnus of Columbus State and is a full-time educational interpreter. Kelli likes all foods and loves to write.
Sarah C. Hiance (Kate Keller) Phoenix audiences might remember Sarah as Lily and the voice of Mary from last year's production of The Secret Garden. A recent graduate of Otterbein College, Sarah enjoys singing and spending as much time with her family as possible.
Jeff Horst (James/Voice of Doctor & Anagnos) returns to Columbus after spending this past summer attending the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, California. A graduate of The Ohio State University, Jeff's favorite role to date was his portrayal of Horton the Elephant in The Phoenix production of Seussical, the Musical.
Emma Welsh-Huggins (Blind Girl) is a member of D3 at The Davis Center for the Performing Arts and was a company member of School House Rock Live Jr. (Davis Center). Emma enjoys running, playing with her cat, and eating bananas.
Aby Lawson (Viney) is a housewife/mother of 4 children - 2 of which are in this production. Aby's favorite show/role to date was performing in the ensemble of A...My Name is Alice (Worthington Community Theatre). Aby would like to thank her family for their love and support.
Morgan Lawson (Martha) recently appeared as the Baby Kangaroo in Davis Performing Arts Center production of Seussical, the Musical. Morgan attends Wickliffe Progressive Community School and likes to play Soccer, Football, and Lacrosse.
Myles Lawson (Percy) is an Irish Dancer and lover of spaghetti. His favorite role to-date was portraying Ritzi in Bugsy Malone, Jr. (Davis Performing Arts Center).
Amber Lewandowski (Assistant Stage Manager) is a Senior Theatre major at Otterbein College. Recent credits include Julius Cesar (Stage Manager) at Otterbein in addition to several productions at The Davis Performing Arts Center. Amber enjoys smoothies and teddy bears.
Eric H. Mayer (Stage Manager) is a staff member with the Department of Theatre at The Ohio State University. Eric's most memorable experience is Stage Managing CAPA's musical production of The Secret Garden in both English and American Sign Language. He is also working part-time towards an M.F.A. in Theatre & Stage Management and mentors stage managers at OSU. Eric enjoys Peanut Butter Cup Blizzards and playing with model trains.
Kim Neff (Interpreter) holds a B.A. in Speech/Hearing Sciences from The Ohio State University in addition to an A.A.S. in ASL/Interpreting from Columbus State. Kim loves chicken wings and watching football!
Anya Pothorski (Blind Girl) attends The Ohio School for the Deaf. Anya loves Shrek and Fiona from the Shrek movie series and likes to pretend she's in a rock band.
Stephen Rute (Captain Keller) previously appeared on The Phoenix stage as Lieutenant Shaw in The Secret Garden. He also appeared in the SRO production of The Fantasticks as El Gallo. Currently, Stephen works as a Community Specialist Deaf Mental Health at CSD of Ohio.
Bryn Sowash (Assistant to the Director) is a Senior at Thomas Worthington High School. Theatrical credits include portraying Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker (Thomas Worthington H.S.). Bryn enjoys playing the piano and is looking forward to attending Columbia College (Chicago) in the fall.
Julie Stewart (Annie Sullivan)teaches K-12 at The Ohio School for the Deaf. Her favorite role to date is Anybodys in West Side Story (NTID Theatre Dept.). Julie thinks Indian food rules and enjoys sewing.
Maggie Tolle (Blind Girl) is excited to make her acting debut in The Miracle Worker. Maggie attends The Ohio State School for the Blind and loves to eat Chicken Fingers.
Jair Castorino Torres (Voice of Captain Keller) holds degrees in English and Theatre from The Ohio State University. Jair was recently scene onstage as a guest artist in The Ohio State University at Lima's production of Fiddler on the Roof (Tevye). Jair loves sushi.
Mekayla Walker (Blind Girl) is an 8th grader at The Ohio School for the Deaf. Mekayla loves theatre and enjoys dancing and Volleyball.
Jarian Watring (Blind Girl) attends The Ohio School for the Deaf, likes to dance, and loves macaroni and cheese. Her favorite role to date is Momma Pig (Three Little Pigs) at the AG Bell School.
